florrie + bill's five questions friday
WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO START YOUR BUSINESS?
I’ve always wanted to set up on my own but it takes such a leap of faith to actually do it. Working alongside small business owners in Australia a few years ago had a huge inspiring influence on me. Seeing them fulfil their ambitions made me think, I can do this too!
WHAT ARE THE TOP THREE THINGS YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT YOUR JOB?
1. Creativity - Whether through our own studio or in collaboration with our design partners.
2. Appreciation of good design - We’re pretty geeky when it comes to the detail.
3. Flexibility - Running your own company is definitely a lifestyle choice and with a young family in tow that's really important to me.
WHAT WOULD YOUR IDEAL STUDIO SPACE LOOK LIKE?
We dream of creating a double storey steel framed window studio with built-in mezzanine level. Using the lower level space as a place to meet, create, display, and photograph and the upper mezzanine level as a more quiet breakaway area, whilst still being connected. There are lots of plans and drafted drawings - it’s definitely a someday goal.
HAVE YOU MET ANY FAMOUS PEOPLE ON YOUR BUSINESS JOURNEY?
None so far, though I did bump into Dame Judy Dench in the loos last week... does that count?
WHAT IS A SKILL YOU REALLY WANT TO LEARN?
Pottery! I’ve done a few classes and really enjoyed the slow, careful and intentional process. I’d like to attempt a vase next to sit alongside my ever so slightly lopsided bowl.
