outdoor style guide - how to make the most of your outside space
We believe our outdoor spaces should be just as considered as our interiors. So we've pulled together a guide to help you make the most of it.
Whether you have a modest balcony or expansive garden, it's important to create a balance between indoors and out so here's our top 5 tips to help create a connected space...
Bring in greenery
Plants are a great way to connect your indoor living space to outside. Pop a leafy indoor plant by the back door or window that directly leads to your outside space and then place an outdoor plant in a complementary pot just outside to create a seamless link.
Take the time to consider the type of plant pot you need. A sculptural shape or colour creates a statement decorative piece, whilst larger pots help to house taller plants - a great solution for outdoor privacy. If it's a herb garden you're after then our Bau Balcony Box would be a great addition to your balcony.

Create a cosy nook
A place to lounge and relax helps to create an outdoor oasis. Whether it's a shady spot or somewhere to soak up the sun, a cosy nook can be created with a simple chair, cushion and rug.
Our Way cushion and Way rug by Ferm Living are both suitable for outdoor use with removable (and washable) covers. They also fall under our conscious living category having been made from 100% recycled polyester produced from plastic bottles.

Choose multifunctional furniture
We understand that outdoor space comes at a premium so it's important that the furniture or items you choose offer a practical and often multifunctional purpose too.
Our large planter from Ferm Living allows you to house plants and create extra storage space through its corresponding plant pot (pictured below with the planter). Something as simple as a bench seat that can be equally used as a storage unit or coffee table provides a clever solution, particularly if your space or budget is small.

Make a room for a place to dine outside
Anyone else feel those holiday vibes when they eat alfresco? If you have the space then creating an outdoor dining area can be invaluable additional entertaining space during the warmer months.
Muuto's Linear Steel Series includes tables, benches, chairs & café tables and are great for outdoor dining whatever the size of your outside space. The table has been designed in proportions that allows for the bench to slide easily under the table when not in use - a smart, compact space saving idea. The side chair and café table combination is a great solution for a smaller terrace.

Consider additional seating when entertaining
If a dining table is not an option then define your outside entertaining area through more portable, petite items. Weather permitting, there is nothing to say you can't use your indoor pouf or stools outside.
Not only does it save you doubling up on furniture but it provides additional seating as and when you need. Plus it's a clever way to create that indoor-outdoor living lifestyle; by using items outside that are normally associated with indoors.
